Kenos

Privacy policy

Kenos has no accounts and no analytics of its own. Browsing data stays on your Mac. Passwords stay in the macOS keychain. Kenos uses the network for the pages you open, for optional filter-list updates, for SponsorBlock segment lookups when that feature is on, and for checking this site for app updates.

Who this is

What stays on your Mac

  • History, bookmarks, session, spaces, hidden-element rules and preferences in ~/Library/Application Support/Kenos/.
  • Passwords and related keychain items in the macOS keychain, labelled for Kenos. They are not uploaded to us.
  • Cookies and site data in WebKit’s store for the app (and separately per space, when spaces are enabled).
  • Downloads in the folder you choose (Downloads by default).
  • Extensions you install, under Application Support.

Deleting the app removes its container and keychain items belonging to it; files you downloaded remain where you saved them.

Network use

As a browser, Kenos connects to the websites you visit. Separately, Kenos itself may:

  • Fetch https://kenos.rh1.tech/appcast.json (about once a day, or when you press Check) to learn about updates, and download a release archive from this same site when you install one.
  • Download public filter lists (EasyList, EasyPrivacy, uBlock Origin filters and related sources) when you update the shield lists — those requests go to the list publishers’ servers, not to a Kenos analytics endpoint.
  • When SponsorBlock is enabled, look up skip segments for the YouTube video you are watching via the public SponsorBlock API (sponsor.ajay.app), using a hash of the video id rather than the raw id. Turn the feature off in Settings › Privacy to stop those requests.

There is no crash reporter that phones home, no advertising SDK, and no account system.

Camera, microphone and location

Websites may ask for camera, microphone or other permissions. Kenos prompts you per site and remembers your choice until you clear it in Settings › Privacy. macOS may also show its own permission dialogs.

Extensions

Extensions you install can request their own permissions and may send data according to their policies. Review each extension before enabling it. Private tabs keep extensions off unless you allow them in Settings.

This website

These pages are static files. There are no cookies, no analytics scripts, and no third-party font or tracker requests — typefaces are served from this domain. The hosting provider and Cloudflare may keep ordinary access logs.

Children

Kenos is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from them through any service of ours.

Changes

If a future version changes what leaves your Mac, this page will be updated first, with the date above refreshed.
